ugh. I made a mistake and tried to change the theme of my blog.

It’s frustrating. I do not like it like this. Please be patient with me while it looks ugly.

Thanks.

Hong Kong Cable TV

This happened on Monday, September 28th:

tvstar

I wrote a big email about this photo above, and I just can’t be bothered re-writing the story.

So if you’re someone that got my mass email (which means you’re on the “People I love to update” email list) then don’t read this posting.

I have actually shortened the story for the blog a bit.

You may know this already, but SCAD is opening up another campus- in Hong Kong. So this week the Hong Kong media are here in Lacoste and are interviewing SCAD students, asking about what it’s like to be abroad and how we like it, etc.

So today the Asians came into my embroidery class, Stitch Diary. We were just stitching away and then they all came in- taking pictures and recording stuff, and were asking Pam tons of questions about what we were doing, and fibers, and what that meant, etc. etc.
So then Pam was like, “Would someone like to give a demo of free motion embroidery?” (Keep in mind this is a class of 6.) No one said anything so Pam was like, “Janelle???” And I of course had to do it because I love Pam and she asked me too.
I’m also kind of a baller at free motion embroidery.

I then set up the machine and the Asians were crowding around me with their cameras and video cameras, taking many photos and videos of me as I was explaining what free motion embroidery was versus sewing normally.

If you want to know what in the world free-motion embroidery is, watch this video I found on youtube.

So I just started drawing (embroidering) swirls on the machine, wrote my name because I’ve been free motioning a lot of text since I’ve been here, and then drew a little flower.
Then one Asian named Philip asked me to embroider “Hong Kong Cable TV”, and the host of the show, Ali, wanted me to put the little flower at the end. So they filmed me doing it, and I cut it off, and gave it to Ali.

Then they were like, “We need to interview someone.” And they wanted me! So I was filmed and am going to be on Hong Kong Cable TV. Hahahah!
She basically asked me if I liked SCAD, how long I’d been sewing, and how long I’ve been at SCAD. I was so nervous but it was super funny.

So that’s it. If you’re in Hong Kong, look for me.

Today was an AMAZING day. I will update later. Perhaps today, because I’m getting behind because so many wonderful things are happening all the time.

Oh what a wonderful life I have!

Also, this is not France related, but my sister just sent me some photographs she took of the guestbook I embroidered and bound for her wedding.

Ile sur la Sorgue.

Yesterday (Sunday) was our second full day in Lacoste.

On Saturday night Pam called all the Fibers girls together and told us to meet at 9am at the Goat Gate (aka: Porte de Chevres) if we were interested in going to an antique market in a little place called Ile sure la Sorgue. So, OF COURSE I went.

Since we had just been settling into the Lacoste, I still had a full memory card on my actual camera, but my iPhone was not too shabby at all! If we are friends on Facebook you have probably already seen these in my mobile uploads, but oh well! We saw a lot of beautiful things and I want to go back and actually buy something.

bugs

This vendor had lots of cool bugs. Surprisingly I liked them. (Maybe that’s because the only kind of bugs I’m okay with are dead, and sometimes I still don’t like those.)

Pam is friends with this vendor. This little shadow box frame thing was filled with all sorts of beautiful trinkets.

knobs

This reminded me of all of the cute little doorknobs that you find at Anthropologie, except legit ones.

Spools!

Lacoste is so beautiful. Classes started today and I’ve picked up a 3rd class because I realized I work better when I’m busy with things. So that means: TONS of embroidery for me this quarter! (That also means that after this quarter I will only have TWO classes left to graduate.)

In my new class (it’s called “Stitch Diary” and is the only class I’ve been to so far) we have an embroidery to do every day for the next 3 weeks. So in 21 days time, I’m going to have 21 embroideries about my experiences in Lacoste from those days. I am excited!

Wow.

It is probably safe to say I am the world’s worst blogger.

I can make an excuse if you’d like: my computer is horrible! Last night I actually watched it die before my very eyes. (What I really think the problem is is that my battery is shot, and my powercord broke too. So I need to get a new one of those yet.) Oh dang.

But summer has been incredible. I have photos, and they are on my computer which I am obviously not on.

I am going to Europe in just 10 days! And it seems that all my time this week has been sucked up already (with fun things of course).

My sister got married last week as well. It was by far, the most incredible wedding I have ever been to… maybe the most incredible wedding that anyone has ever been to. It will remain that way until I get married probably. I mean… my sister and I have already talked this over, and she’s just going to have to deal with the fact that my wedding will be a tad bit better simply because I will have all of her great help and ideas, plus more, because there is more time before I get married.

I am going to try my very best to keep updating this while I’m in Lacoste over the fall. I head there on September 18th, but will be spending 2 weeks in beloved Dundee, Scotland as well as 6 days in London with 3 lovely ladies from SCAD- who are also going to be in Lacoste. It is all too exciting.

So sorry!

Here’s a photo of Derek (brother-in-law) and Sister loving me for the million dollar blanket I wove them for my final in intro to weaving (aka: the greatest thing I’ve ever made.)

I never really pay attention to commercials, but as I was catching up while I was home on some missed episodes that my mom has tvoed, I was also doing an assignment for studio production, which was to make note of all the commercials played during 2 TV shows, for 30 minutes each, and then to answer a few questions.
So I saw this commercial and immediately recognized the cutest girl in the world doing a cotton commercial.

I love Zooey Deschanel. She and M. Ward (aka: She & Him) reallllllly need to get to work on a new album.
Or she should just do something solo, whatever, I just love her. She’s hands down, one of my favorites.

The wonderful Pam Wiley, my favorite professor, gave me quite the compliment today in class.

She and I were talking about what I was going to do for my next project, which is a series of 3 identical things and I had no idea what I wanted to do.

She was very encouraging and sweet to me. She told me that I had a way of making things that looked different, unique, and like my own, and that everything I seemed to make just ended up being beautiful.

I felt very special by hearing that from her, especially considering she is the most amazing professor I’ve ever had and probably will ever have. I love her.

It is very crazy to me that I have already finished 3 weeks of school. It is also crazy that I have already had 2 sets of visitors (1 person- sweet Bianca- being a repeat).

But this weekend was a wonderful weekend. On Thursday night Bianca and Landson came and they stayed here until Saturday and left around 6pm. Friday and Saturday were really super fun filled days with beautiful weather and lots of laughing.

On Friday we spent a lot of the day outside. It was fun. We played tennis with Kenny and Brenda, and we also pogo-ed a bit in my favorite place in Savannah- Forsyth.

Then we went to lunch at Zunzi’s. Yummm.

After Zunzi’s we headed to Tybee Island and flew kites, and also created our own. See below. It was a wonderful day.
