Hi. My name is Janelle Gates and I graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Fibers this past spring, 2010.

I am always seeing to grow- as a person and as a maker.

Looking back at my life is where I seek my inspiration- in my past experiences of childhood adventure, travel, family, what growing up looks like, and in the people that I’ve known and met along the way. I’ve concluded that with these things in mind, I make the very best things I can make up to that point. I have stopped trying to make something that the consumer wants, but am instead making something with love, and with excellence, so people will love it, and in turn, want it. I believe that the more I experience, and the more I fall in love with Life, I’m going to be more inspired to make greater things.

I like to pay attention to the details in life- wonderful pens and papers; snail mail; and extra good hug; new friends and a delicious cup of coffee. I seek to involve those things in my work; to make a product that makes the user feel a touch of love and a touch of memory.
